A half-mile series of cascades on Lawrence Brook in Royalston, managed by The Trustees of Reservations.
Doane Falls (also called Doane's Falls) is a series of cascades dropping Lawrence Brook through a wooded gorge in Royalston, in north-central Massachusetts. The Trustees of Reservations, which owns and manages the 46-acre property, describes a half-mile trail running down one side of the stream as moderate with some strenuous sections, plus a shorter, roughly 0.15-mile accessible path from the lower parking area.
The property is open daily, sunrise to sunset, free of charge, and the Trustees suggest allowing at least an hour to see it. Parking at the main entrance on Athol Road holds only about three cars, with a longer walk-in option via a woods road to nearby Coddings Meadow. The Trustees state plainly that swimming, diving and wading at the falls have led to fatalities and serious injuries over the years, and they prohibit water access accordingly; dogs must stay leashed.
