A dramatic waterfall on the St. Mary Falls Trail in Glacier National Park, usually visited together with the smaller St. Mary Falls.
Virginia Falls sits along the popular St. Mary and Virginia Falls Trail in Glacier National Park, reached by continuing about 0.8 to 1.4 miles past the better-known St. Mary Falls, depending on the exact trailhead used. Most visitors combine the two, making a round trip of roughly 3.6 to 6 miles depending on where they start — the shorter option from the St. Mary Falls trailhead along Going-to-the-Sun Road, or a longer approach from Sun Point.
The trail passes through forest and crosses footbridges with views into the St. Mary valley before reaching Virginia Falls' taller, more dramatic drop. Glacier's shuttle system serves the main trailheads in season, which can simplify parking during the park's busiest summer months. Check the park's current trail status and any wildlife closures before setting out.
