A roadside view of twin streams descending into a green Kauaʻi valley north of Līhuʻe.
Wailua Falls is a waterfall stop on Kauaʻi that can be enjoyed from a roadside viewpoint rather than a hike. The falls are near the southern end of the Wailua River, north of Līhuʻe, and often divide into two streams. Rain farther up the mountains changes their shape and volume, so the scene may differ noticeably from familiar photographs.
The official tourism directions follow Maʻalo Road uphill from Hanamāʻulu. Plan this as a viewpoint visit: a pin on the waterfall itself is not a road destination or a route to the pool. Morning light can create a rainbow when it meets the mist, though that depends on conditions. Check road and local access notices before the drive, use only permitted parking and stay within established viewing areas. There is no need to seek a steep informal descent to appreciate this waterfall.
