A wide, privately managed waterfall on the Snake River near Nebraska's Merritt Reservoir.

Snake River Falls is a wide cascade where the Snake River drops about 12 feet over a 54-foot-wide rock ledge in Cherry County, roughly 23 miles southwest of Valentine and about 3 miles from Merritt Reservoir. The area tourism office calls it the largest waterfall in Nebraska by volume when the river is running full. Unlike most waterfalls in this guide, it sits on private land at the Snake Falls Sportsmen's Club rather than within a state or federal park.

Visitors reach the falls via Highway 97, watching for a windmill, water tank and small stand of trees marking the turn, then pay a small posted admission, about $1 at last check, at a pay box in front of the club building to use viewing trails on both sides. As of this review the official area tourism listing described the site as recently reopened and operating daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; hiking down into the canyon to the base of the falls is no longer permitted. Because this is privately managed property, confirm current hours, access and fees directly before visiting.
